Second year student Kim Higgins captured the morning light playing over the waters of Lake James.

 

First-year Photographic Technology student James Hughes’ submitted this image for an assignment where students were given 24 hours to produce a photograph, but were limited to taking a single shot. This assignment was inspired by the work of National Geographic photographer Jim Brandenburg’s Chased by the Light project in which the photographer took only one photo a day for 90 days in the Minnesota wilderness.

First-year student Amanda Morgan walked through this scene during an exposure lasting several minutes and “painted with light” using several bursts from a single flash unit. The long exposure shows color in a night sky unobservable to the human eye and tracks star movement. The image was taken on assignment for the Intermediate Photography class at McDowell Technical Community College (MTCC).

First-year photographic technology student Andrea Brooks made careful use of fill-flash to create this portrait that perfectly balances natural and artificial light sources.
